Who We Are
Roots & Wings is an outdoor learning program
for children ages 4 and up residing in the Palouse region. In this program, children will learn about native plants and animals, Leave No Trace practices, weather and climate, diverse ecosystems, and how to maintain ecological integrity of a wild space. During school, we build social and emotional skills, confidence, curiosity, creativity, and a sense of community while learning among peers.
Our Mission
At Roots & Wings, our mission is to provide play-based, hands-on education for young children in nature. We strive to connect children not only to the place they live, but to each other in a supportive community through observation, exploration, and creativity. Our mission as an outdoor program is to honor and protect the native biomes of our region through awareness and acts of care.
The Co-op Model
We understand the important bonds that connect child, parent, family, and teacher. Through cooperative ownership and interdependence, we can strengthen our bonds to provide the best outdoor education for the children of our community. For teachers, this model provides power and transparency in the workplace. For parents and families, this model provides a supportive community where family units have a stake in their children’s education through engagement and decision-making. We wholeheartedly believe that it takes a village to raise a child, and know that resilient communities are examples of healthy ecosystems.
